Business Manager – Interior Design Firm

Our client is a high-end residential interiors firm located in Chicago. Founded in 2003 with a new model and a client-centric approach, the Firm has grown to ten professionals who work on significant large-scale projects across Chicago and other parts of the U.S. We feel privileged that our clients often come to us for both their primary residence as well as their vacation homes and that most of our work is from referral and repeat business. The Business Manager is a newly created position to help take the Firm to the next level in operating efficiency and will contribute to an exceptional experience for both clients and employees, and will support the Firm’s continued growth.
Job Objective & Essential Functions
The Business Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations. This is a hands-on role that requires a blend of experience including administrative, facilities and accounting. In addition, s/he will work closely with the Principals and assist in managing the interior design team.
Specific areas of responsibility:
? Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable.
? Process vendor checks, semi-monthly payroll (ADP) and commissions.
? Effectively engage with business partners, vendors and clients.
? Process human resource paperwork regarding new hires, terminations and benefit enrollment. Ensure compliance.
? Maintain PTO, cash flow and daily banking activity reports.
? Serve as primary point of contact for all facility related issues, including: office supplies & equipment, scheduling, and general office environment.
? Build processes that both drive efficiency and create a positive experience for clients and employees. ? General administrative and other duties as requested by the Principals. Education, Experience and Skill Requirements:
? Degree in Accounting and/or Business Administration preferred.
? Demonstrated experience managing a small business.
? Three+ years bookkeeping experience. Familiarity with QuickBooks preferred.
? Technically savvy, with a willingness to learn. Experience with Studio Wedware software ideal, but not required.
? Strong Microsoft Office skills (PowerPoint, Excel and Word).
? Professional and persuasive communication skills, including strong writing skills.
? Passionate, hard worker, and well-organized professional with power to prioritize and multitask.
? Able to exert sound judgment, discretion and preserve confidentiality.
? Good project management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
? Good liaison with all other team members
? Strong organizational skills with close attention to detail.
? Show initiative and take an enthusiastic proactive approach to work while being poised and cool (no drama) under pressure.
? Must be action-oriented, with an ability to get things done in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, but client-centric environment.
? Must be an innovative thinker, commercially minded and inventive, with a balance of right and left brain thinking.
? An interest in design would be a plus!
